GridStor acquires 800 MWh battery project in Oklahoma

Oregon-based battery energy storage system (BESS) developer GridStor has acquired the rights to develop a 200 MW/800 MWh project in eastern Oklahoma.
Announcing the move, Goldman Sachs-backed GridStor said the project would be developed in a part of the state which is attracting data centers and in response to a call for energy storage systems by utility Southwest Power Pool (SPP).
“Battery storage is a scalable and near-term solution to provide reliability to the SPP system and its large customers,” said Chris Taylor, CEO of GridStor. “Batteries provide energy to stabilize the power system and meet hours of greatest demand every day in multiple regions across the US. This acquisition demonstrates GridStor’s commitment to rapidly adding battery energy storage to the SPP grid to support the growing needs of its residents and businesses.”
The purchaser did not reveal how much the project is worth nor the terms of the transaction agreed with Texas-based energy storage developer Black Mountain Energy Storage.
