Italian renewables developer Altea Green Power (AGP) has announced MASE approval for a 200 MW battery energy storage plant in Basilicata, in the municipality of Genzano di Lucania.

The €17.5 million ($18 million)-plus project consists of two autonomous 100 MW sections which will connect to a planned expansion of Italy’s national grid, which is operated by Terna.

Announcing government approval for the Basilicata site, AGP explained it had already been sold to Irish developer Aer Soléir, as part of a deal agreed in July 2022.

“In the agreement signed in 2022 with Aer Soléir, which provides for the construction of three plants on the sites already sold by AGP to Aer Soléir, Altea Green Power carries out all the necessary procedures to complete the authorization process up to the Notice to Proceed,” said the Italian company.

AGP said it has a 2.94 GW Italian pipeline of battery energy storage system projects that are at an advanced development stage and available for sale.

Dublin-based Aer Soléir is affiliated with the 547 Energy investment platform of Texas-based Quantum Energy Partners.
