German developer Green Flexibility on Monday announced it will build a €35 million, 40 MW/90 MWh BESS in Obergünzburg, Swabia.

In addition to storing excess solar and wind power to reduce load shedding on the national grid, the site will operate in a “grid-neutral” manner by also responding to signals from its local electricity network.

The developer said the high-voltage BESS, which will have its own transformer station, is set to be commissioned before 2027.

Green Flexibility said the project would also feature a “public participation program” for residents in the same zip code, without elaborating further.
