Huawei expulsion comes days after announcement of tie-up with Italy’s Albasolar

The Italian company, which designs electricity self-consumption systems for commercial and industrial (C&I) clients, on Wednesday announced a strategic partnership with the Chinese manufacturer.

The announcement of the decision by solar trade body SolarPower Europe to expel Huawei from its membership came just days after the Chinese battery energy storage system (BESS) provider had unveiled a partnership agreement with Italy’s Albasolar.

Piedmont-based C&I solar company Albasolar and Huawei Digital Power signed a collaboration agreement to develop BESS, aiming to integrate industrial energy storage systems into energy optimization projects for the C&I sector by combining them with energy management systems.

“The collaboration is born from a convergence of skills and interests,” wrote Albasolar. “On the one hand, Huawei Digital Power brings its knowhow in the production and control of solar energy and in the latest-generation storage technologies; on the other, Albasolar, a company specialized in the design and construction of systems for [electricity] self-production and self-consumption, offers consolidated experience in the intelligent management of energy for industrial production processes.”

Albasolar said the first fruits of the collaboration would be a BESS at bottling machine manufacturing company GAI Macchine, in Ceresole d’Alba commune.

“The power of the storage system will be 4.4 MW with an energy storage capacity of 8.8 MWh, combined with a 6 MW photovoltaic system,” stated Albasolar.

Partnership working between Italian and Chinese companies is a trend, with Italy’s Eiko Power recently signing an agreement with SAJ for the production of BESS systems in Lombardy, and Energy S.p.A. collaborating with China’s Pylontech on the first phase of a planned BESS production site in Veneto.
