Econergy acquires 200 MWh of German batteries

Israel-headquartered developer Econergy Renewable Energy announced its entry into the German market on Wednesday with the acquisition of two battery energy storage system projects in Brandenburg which have a combined capacity of 100 MW/200 MWh.
The developer said construction is due to start on the sites this year with commercial operation expected before April 2027.
Econergy said the sites cost around €73 million ($84 million) and it expects around €13.7 million annual revenue from them for average annual earnings – before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization – of €11.9 million in the first five full years of operation.
“We have been observing the German market for some time and have been waiting for the right opportunity to officially enter the market,” said Econergy CEO Eyal Podhorzer. The company is also planning renewable energy sites in Germany.
Econergy claims to have an energy storage pipeline of around 4 GW and is advancing 15 European storage projects for co-location with solar sites. The company’s total renewables and storage project pipeline tops 14 GW with Econergy active in the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Romania, Poland, and Greece.
