Renalfa IPP has completed the repowering of its Kaolinovo solar park in northeast Bulgaria, refreshing the site’s capacity to a 60 MW from the solar PV, while adding a 33 MW / 110 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS).

Originally commissioned in 2012 with 10 MW, the Kaolinovo facility now features an upgraded 33 MW solar array alongside the co-located storage system. The project was managed and built by Solarpro Bulgaria, which served as EPC contractor.

Vienna-based Renalfa IPP is a joint venture between Renalfa Solarpro Group and French fund manager RGREEN INVEST. The company is active as a renewable energy investor in Central and Eastern Europe, operating in Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, and North Macedonia, and only a week ago switched on a 260 MWh BESS.

According to Renalfa IPP, its current portfolio includes 554 MW of operational generating assets and 455 MW / 1,008 MWh of implemented storage capacity. A further 1 GW of projects is under construction, with another 1 GW in late-stage development.
