Greencells and Desay ESS form turnkey BESS alliance for Europe

Greencells, a Gerrnan engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, and Chinese battery manufacturer Desay ESS say their new partnership targets both standalone large-scale storage and solar co-located projects, with Greencells contributing in-house construction and EPC capability and Desay supplying liquid-cooled battery systems including proprietary cell production, power electronics, and energy management software.

The partners say the arrangement gives buyers a single point of contact from initial planning through to ongoing operations and maintenance. Desay’s systems incorporate what the company calls its Active Safety AI cell technology, which it says monitors temperature and pressure inside individual cells in real time to identify potential safety risks at an early stage.

“With this strategic alliance, we are creating a powerful combination for the European storage market,” said Fabian Herr, CEO of Greencells Group. “Together with Desay’s proprietary cell manufacturing, industrial production capacity and proven technology, we can now offer our clients turnkey BESS solutions in the large-scale storage segment, with the highest quality standards and a secured supply chain.”

Jack Guo, senior vice president and general manager of Desay ESS, said the cooperation “marks the beginning of a long-term strategic relationship,” and that the company aims to combine its vertically integrated manufacturing capabilities with Greencells’ EPC experience and European market presence.

Greencells, based in Saarbrücken and founded in 2009, says it has installed more than 4.1 GW of capacity worldwide and employs more than 400 people. Desay ESS, a subsidiary of Desay Battery, is recognized by BloombergNEF as a tier-1 energy storage manufacturer, according to the companies.
