Solarpro and CATL commission 602 MWh BESS in Bulgaria

Bulgarian PV systems provider Solarpro Technology and Chinese battery manufacturer CATL have connected a 602 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) to Bulgaria’s electricity grid in Burgas, which Solarpro says is the largest operational storage facility in Eastern Europe.

Solarpro Technology said the project increases Bulgaria’s total energy storage capacity by 10%, strengthening the integration of renewable energy and supporting the stable operation of the national power system.

“Delivering what is currently the largest operational battery energy storage facility in Eastern Europe required close technical collaboration,” said Adelin Antonov, CEO of Solarpro Technology. “The combination of CATL’s advanced energy storage technology with Solarpro’s efficient integration made it possible to bring the facility into operation quickly and reliably.”

Solarpro Technology acted as the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor and was responsible for the full integration of the BESS, which uses CATL’s TENER storage system. The companies said they plan to further expand their energy storage collaboration over the next two years.

Solarpro previously served as project manager on a 260 MWh battery storage system in Tenevo, southeastern Bulgaria, that came online in October 2025 using Hithium and Kehua batteries.
