Tesvolt secures permit for 60 MW/190 MWh battery project in Germany
Tesvolt has secured building approval for a large-scale battery energy storage project in eastern Germany that will comprise 36 individual systems with a combined capacity of 60 MW and 190 MWh.
The project will be developed on a 20,000 square metre industrial site in Wittenberg and is designed as a merchant asset for participation in energy trading markets, including arbitrage.
According to the developer, grid connection capacity has already been confirmed by local distribution system operator Mitnetz. The connection will be made via an existing high-voltage line on site, with a new substation also planned to support operations.
Construction is scheduled to begin shortly, with commissioning targeted for March 2028. A noise barrier will also be installed to protect nearby residential areas.
The total investment volume is estimated at around €35 million. Tesvolt will handle project development and construction up to ready-to-build stage, while financing and long-term operation will be carried out by an external investor.
The company said the project marks a key milestone in its expansion into large-scale storage development, with additional sites already under evaluation based on technical and regulatory criteria.
