MaxSolar signs deal for 100 MWh grid-support BESS in Germany

Entrix has signed an agreement to optimize and trade output from Maxsolar’s 20 MW/100 MWh grid-support battery storage system near Ansbach, as the German developer also commissions a separate 76 MW subsidy-free solar plant in Bavaria.

German renewable energy developer MaxSolar has selected Entrix to optimize and commercialize a 20 MW/100 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) designed to provide grid-support services in southern Germany.

The five-hour battery project in Winterschneidbach, near Ansbach, Bavaria, is being developed for distribution network operator N-Ergie and is intended to help stabilize the local grid. MaxSolar and Entrix said the system will operate on a fully merchant basis, using AI-supported trading strategies aimed at balancing commercial returns with grid requirements.

MaxSolar said the Winterschneidbach project is the second grid-support battery storage system it has developed on behalf of a German distribution network operator. The company is also building a similar project in the Bayernwerk network area.

Separately, MaxSolar has commissioned a 76 MW solar park in Amerdingen in Bavaria. The subsidy-free project operates under a long-term power purchase agreement covering about 70% of its output, with the remaining electricity to be sold through direct market trading.

The solar facility was developed on land owned by Camilla Princess zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg and comprises nearly 127,000 solar modules installed across 51 hectares.
