Maxsolar, a German renewable energy developer, has secured contracts for two grid-supporting battery storage projects in Bavaria.

The first project, in Wutzldorf, is a five-hour, 25 MWh system connected to the Bayernwerk distribution network. It has been developed under Section 11a of Germany’s Energy Industry Act (EnWG) and is expected to start operating in the coming weeks.

Sungrow said it completed delivery of its PowerTitan 2.0 BESS for the Wutzldorf project by the end of June. Once operational, the system will follow optimized charging and discharging schedules to relieve pressure on the local distribution grid, particularly during periods of high solar generation. The project forms part of Maxsolar’s regional battery storage cluster strategy.

The companies are also partnering on a larger 100 MWh grid-supporting battery project in Winterschneidbach, Bavaria. Sungrow said deliveries are scheduled for November. Like the Wutzldorf installation, the project is designed as a five-hour battery system and will serve as a pilot to demonstrate the role of battery storage in improving grid stability, flexibility and renewable energy integration.

Maxsolar said the Wutzldorf project represents an important step in its regional BESS cluster strategy, while the larger Winterschneidbach installation is expected to demonstrate the broader role of grid-supporting battery storage beyond a single site.

Sungrow said the two projects illustrate how battery systems of different sizes can work together to improve power system flexibility and grid stability.
