Sungrow to supply 240 MWh of BESS for solar plants in Italy

BNZ has signed a supply agreement with Sungrow for 240 MWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) to be installed at two operational solar plants in Italy.

Independent power producer BNZ has selected Sungrow as its preferred supplier of BESS for 240 MWh of storage capacity at two operating solar plants in Italy.

The agreement covers the integration of battery storage at the 45 MW Rinaldone and 53 MW Camposcala photovoltaic plants in the province of Viterbo, Lazio. The companies did not disclose an installation timeline.

The supply agreement includes batteries, containers, power conversion systems (PCS), medium-voltage equipment, commissioning, on-site testing, technical training, and a third-party energy management system (EMS).

BNZ said the agreement forms part of a broader framework between Sungrow and Nuveen Infrastructure, BNZ’s owner.

The company is developing 530 MW of battery storage capacity across Europe as part of an overall 850 MW development pipeline.

BNZ said Italy will be among the first markets where it deploys battery storage, with almost 1 GWh planned across eight projects in Lazio, Sicily, and Apulia. The first installations are scheduled to begin this year.
