Longi secures 300 MWh battery storage supply deal for solar project in Italy

Longi says it will supply a 300 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) for an RWE solar project in Italy using its liquid-cooled LongiBank tech.

Longi has signed an agreement with German utility RWE to supply a 300 MWh BESS for a PV project in Italy, marking another step in the company’s expansion beyond solar modules into integrated energy solutions.

Longi will supply its 6.25 MWh LongiBank battery energy storage solution for the project. The liquid-cooled lithium iron phosphate (LFP) system has a storage capacity of 6,251 kWh per 20-foot container and incorporates multi-level electrical fuses and AI-based thermal runaway prediction for fire prevention, said the company.

The battery system will be deployed in a four-hour configuration to provide peak shaving and ancillary services for Italy’s electricity grid, supporting the country’s renewable energy integration goals.

Longi said the project reflects its strategy to expand beyond photovoltaic module manufacturing by offering integrated solar and storage solutions. The company said it sees growing demand in Europe for long-term partnerships covering both generation and storage technologies.

The agreement follows a broader shift among solar manufacturers toward battery storage as they seek to expand their product offerings and capture more value across renewable energy projects.
