German partners commission 25 MWh battery storage system

Utility VWEW-Energie and developer Green Flexibility have commissioned a 10 MW/25 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Bavaria, Germany, that uses a grid-neutral operating strategy to respond to local network conditions and market signals.

German utility VWEW-Energie and battery storage developer Green Flexibility have commissioned a 10 MW/25 MWh battery energy storage system in Marktoberdorf, Bavaria.

The project is the first collaboration between the regional utility and the battery storage developer. The companies said the system progressed from contract signing to commissioning in seven months.

The battery operates under Green Flexibility’s “REGIOlink” concept, which uses a grid-neutral operating strategy that responds not only to electricity price signals but also to the requirements of the local distribution network.

Green Flexibility said operational experience from the project will feed into its FCA Blueprint initiative, which is intended to provide practical guidance for implementing flexible connection agreements for battery storage projects.
