Serentica Renewables commissions first phase of 1 GWh Bikaner battery project

Indian developer claims world first as the project is subject to a time-block, round-the-clock industrial offtake agreement – supporting delivery of 24/7 clean power.

Serentica Renewables has commissioned the first phase of its 1 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Bikaner, Rajasthan. The project represents the first time the renewable energy arm of Vedanta Group has delivered a large-scale BESS for the commercial and industrial segment.

The first phase of the project comprises a 50 MW/200 MWh BESS. The Bikaner BESS has been developed with a modular architecture to provide operational flexibility, scalability and rapid response capabilities.

Serentica Renewables said its Bikaner project powers one of the world’s first time-block round-the-clock (RTC) renewable power arrangements for industrial consumers, demonstrating how battery storage can transform intermittent renewable energy into dependable, 24/7 clean power.

Established in 2022, Serentica Renewables is an independent power producer (IPP) with 3.2 GW of renewable energy capacity. The IPP has ongoing projects across multiple states, leveraging a mix of solar, wind, energy storage, and advanced balancing solutions. These include a planned 7 GWh battery order pipeline for the next two years.
