Kostal starts selling new battery inverter

Kostal began has started selling its new PLENTICORE BI 25 battery inverter. The company said the device is now available to order through specialist retailers.

The 25 kW, three-phase inverter offers backup power functionality and intelligent system connectivity. It is designed for commercial and larger residential systems, both for new installations and battery storage retrofits.

The PV system and battery storage system connect on the AC side, allowing the storage system to be configured independently of the existing or planned PV inverter setup, Kostal said. The company is targeting specialist planners, installers, and operators working on larger storage projects, peak-load reduction, and solar self-consumption. Three independent battery connections support high-voltage batteries, including Kostal’s modular HELIVOR HV system, with storage capacities from 5 kWh to 230 kWh.

Kostal gives the new battery inverter a peak efficiency of 98.3% and said it has low standby losses. When used with a dynamic electricity tariff, the battery storage system can be charged and discharged when electricity prices are favorable. The PLENTICORE BI 25’s three-phase backup power function is also designed to improve security of supply, with loads of up to 25 kVA able to operate in backup power mode.

The inverter can also be combined with Kostal’s PIKO CI G commercial PV inverter in the 30 kW, 50 kW, and 100 kW power classes. Because of the functional separation, the PV inverter can be installed close to the PV system, reducing DC cable runs, Kostal said.

Kostal’s Multi Device Control (MDC) can be used to network the inverters into an integrated system. The unit coordinates energy flows and higher-level control signals, including those required under Section 9 of Germany’s Renewable Energy Act (EEG) and Section 14a of the Energy Industry Act (EnWG).

The PLENTICORE BI 25 is also designed for integration into networked energy systems. It supports standardized communication protocols including EEBus (LPC and MPC) and Modbus/SunSpec TCP, enabling integration with energy and building management systems.

Kostal has also designed the inverter for simplified installation and commissioning. Push-in terminals enable fast wiring, while commissioning can be carried out via an app, web server, or directly on the inverter. Updates are installed automatically. The Kostal app and portal allow users to monitor system and operating data.
