Italy’s BESS additions slow to 28.86 MWh in July

Since the start of the year, Italy has added 88,566 new solar installations, an increase of 4.23%. Compared with July 2025, the number of PV systems has increased by 8.43%, or 169,598 installations.

In terms of capacity, Italy has added 6,873.75 MW of solar generation compared with a year earlier, an increase of 17%. From January through July 31, the increase was 3,791.16 MW, or 8.71%.

Italy now has 2,180,654 PV installations across all system sizes, representing 99.3% of all renewable energy plants. Solar accounts for 53.94% of total renewable energy capacity, at 47,304.14 MW.

New BESS integrated with renewable energy systems installed in July added 28.86 MWh of capacity, up 0.24% from the previous month, and 15.6 MW of power, an increase of 0.26%.

Compared with July 2025, the number of BESS integrated with renewable energy systems increased by 13.94%, or 115,996 systems. Storage capacity increased by 1,717.80 MWh, or 16.66%, while power capacity rose by 925.33 MW, or 18.07%.

As of July 31, Italy had 948,086 electrochemical storage systems integrated with renewable energy systems, with a combined capacity of 12,025.83 MWh and power capacity of 6,045.13 MW.

In June, Italy added 8,224 new PV systems totaling 483.66 MW. In 2025, the country installed 213,200 PV systems with a combined capacity of 6.4 GW, including 15,533 systems totaling 638.6 MW in December.
