Latin America ‘needs modern grid infrastructure, stable regulation, and pro-investment policy’
Atlas Renewable Energy recently inaugurated the 200 MW/800 MWh 'BESS Del Desierto' project in Chile's Antofagasta region days after closing $510 million to build the 215 MW solar plus 418 MW/1,672 MWh BESS Estepa site. pv magazine spoke with Alfredo Solar, Atlas' regional manager for Chile, about those milestones, the state of the sector, and LatAm's renewables prospects.

‘UK heat pumps require massive energy storage fleet’
Researchers in the United Kingdom estimate around 175 TWh of hydrogen and compressed air energy storage (CAES) capacity will be needed to fully decarbonize heating in the country. Researcher Bruno Cardenas told pv magazine when domestic heat demand is fully electrified, average annual electricity demand and peak load in the grid will be 26% and 70% higher than current levels, respectively.

Falling prices, geopolitic risk define energy storage market
Speakers from the NetZero Milan Expo-Summit 2025, that opens tomorrow, have told pv magazine a falling lithium price is putting pressure on emerging battery alternatives such as sodium-ion as the industry shifts from incremental gains in performance to larger battery cells.
