Sungrow to supply 1 GWh of battery storage for Sunterra RE’s solar parks in Bulgaria

Bulgarian renewables developer Sunterra RE has partnered with Sungrow to deploy 1 GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) at three of its largest solar parks. The rollout is part of the second phase of Sunterra’s storage expansion, more than tripling its current 300 MWh capacity.

Sungrow will manufacture, test, and deliver its Power Titan 2.0 system. The industrial-scale solution features lithium0iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, string energy conversion systems, and advanced energy management software. The storage units are expected to shift solar generation to better align with peak demand, stabilising electricity costs and improving overall grid resilience.

“This agreement is much more than a commercial transaction, it is a clear commitment to Bulgaria’s energy future,” said Sunterra RE CEO Emil Shopov. “We chose Sungrow because of their proven expertise with over 28 years of experience in the industry and over 740 GW of installed capacity in more than 180 countries.”

The BESS will be installed across three sites, including Sunterra’s 208 MW Kaloyanovo and 201 MW Galabovo projects in Plovdiv province. Sunterra Re also owns solar parks including 208 MW Dalgo Pole, 201.4 MW Galabovo, 115 MW Karlovo and 9.6 MW Pleven.

This move follows another Sungrow deal made in Eastern Europe. Just last month, German-Bulgarian solar developer Sunotec and Sungrow signed an agreement to install 2.4 GWh of BESS across solar projects in Bulgaria and wider Europe.
