Grenergy powers up another 1.1 GWh of storage at Oasis de Atacama in Chile

The facility represents Phase IV of the Oasis de Atacama project, sold last September to funds managed by CVC DIF. The full complex is slated to reach 2 GW of solar capacity and 11 GWh of battery storage.

Spanish multinational Grenergy has announced that Gabriela, or phase IV of the Oasis de Atacama project, is now officially powered up. The site features 272 MW of solar power and 1,100 MWh of storage capacity and was sold last September to funds managed by CVC DIF.

Gabriela operates under a hybrid power purchase agreement (PPA) and is situated more than 3,000 meters above sea level in a region noted for having the highest solar radiation on Earth.

The Oasis de Atacama complex is being developed across seven phases, with an ultimate goal of 2 GW of solar and 11 GWh of battery storage. With the first three phases already operational and others currently under construction, the project has secured approximately $968 million in financing for its early stages. Furthermore, long-term PPAs are already in place for 75% of the output from the first four phases.

Under the terms of the deal, Grenergy will provide operations and maintenance (O&M) services for the Gabriela plant for a five-year period, leveraging existing strategic partnerships with Tier 1 suppliers. Many of the suppliers for major phases have been announed as well, including BYD and CATL.

This sale follows a December 2024 transaction with KKR subsidiary ContourGlobal. Grenergy maintains that it still holds 1.2 GW of installed solar capacity and 7.3 GWh of storage, representing 67% of the original project’s total scale.
