Recurrent Energy confirms 1 GWh BESS will be co-located with oversized UK solar plant
Recurrent Energy has announced a 500 MW/1 GWh BESS will be co-located alongside an 800 MW solar plant under development in Lincolnshire, England. The 500 MW power rating for the BESS corresponds with a 500 MW grid connection secured for the Tillbridge Solar Project site.
A Recurrent Energy spokesperson confirmed to ESS News that 800 MWp is the current capacity assumption for the PV plant, accounting for oversizing. This would be more than double the capacity of the largest operational UK solar plant, the 373 MW Cleve Hill Solar Park.
Developed as a joint venture between Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar, and UK-based Tribus Clean Energy, Tillbridge Solar Project was approved through the UK Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIP) pathway in October 2025, unlike smaller projects which are decided by local government.
NSIP status is granted to energy projects with a generation capacity exceeding 50 MW in England – increasing to 100 MW from Dec. 31, 2025 – with the final decision made by the UK Energy Secretary.
In a press release, Recurrent Energy CEO Ismael Guerrero said the company was proud to have secured a development consent order (DCO) for the project, describing it as “one of the UK’s most significant solar and storage projects.”
“Tillbridge represents a major step forward in supporting the UK’s clean energy transition, strengthening grid reliability while delivering tangible community and environmental benefits. This achievement underscores Recurrent Energy’s commitment to advancing large-scale renewable infrastructure in the UK and globally.”
