pv magazine Global May Edition 2025 | Powering through

Energy storage is increasingly showing its value as a central piece in the energy transition puzzle and investors are attracted to the opportunity of providing valuable services to the grid and participating in energy arbitrage [charging batteries when electricity prices are low and discharging during peak demand periods] and other potentially lucrative trading mechanisms.

This story is playing out in many parts of the world, including Brazil and the Caribbean. In this edition, however, we turn our focus to Europe, where many of the most developed energy storage markets are found in 2025.

The United Kingdom has led the continent so far, with Germany and Italy now taking steps to emulate this success. A wealth of new markets in the region are also waking to the potential of energy storage, including Spain, France, Greece, and Romania. “If Europe is really set on furthering its energy transition, it has no choice but to acknowledge that the fates of PV, wind, and [energy] storage are bound,” as Clean Horizon’s Michael Salomon neatly puts it.

Wer in Batterien investiert, will diese vermarkten.
