Indian tender for 2.4 GW solar-plus-storage
Indian hydroelectric power company NHPC has issued a 2.4 GW solar-plus-storage tender which stipulates at least 500 kW/1 MWh of energy storage must be installed for each megawatt of solar generation capacity awarded.
The energy storage in question must be charged with solar power.
Under the terms of the tender, projects must be set up on land in India, to be identified by the developers. The solar power produced will be purchased by NHPC and sold to the state utilities, electricity distribution companies, and any other beneficiaries. After conclusion of the bidding process, the NHPC will enter into a power purchase agreement with the selected bidders for purchase of the solar power for 25 years from the scheduled commencement-of-supply date of the project.
The minimum project size is 50 MW with multiples of 10 MW available thereafter. The cumulative generation capacity bid should not exceed 600 MW although there is a ‘greenshoe option’ to double that maximum scale.
For projects located in North-Eastern States and ‘special category’ sites, the minimum PV generation capacity that can be offered by a developer shall be 30 MW.
