Commercial operation for Chile’s 134 MWh El Manzano battery

Chile’s National Electric Coordinator has granted authorization to Enel Chile, through its subsidiary Enel Green Power, to commercially operate its El Manzano battery storage system in the commune of Tiltil, in the Metropolitan region.

The site will have “67 MW of net installed capacity for 2 hours, equivalent to 134 MWh of energy,” according to an Enel statement.

Italian energy company Enel stated the project marks completion of its first energy cluster in Metropolitan, which is complemented by a photovoltaic park, also named El Manzano, with 99.4 MW of generation capacity. The solar park began operation at the beginning of 2024.

The solar installation is deployed on a 185-hectare site and features 162,000 bifacial, monocrystalline panels with 615 W and 610 W of output. The PV park is expected to generate 226 GWh annually.

Enel Chile said the energy cluster “will also be able to manage around 44 GWh per year, allowing renewable generation to be transferred to the hours of highest consumption and with less solar resources available.”
