Indian state tenders 1 GWh of batteries

State electric company the Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corp. Ltd has invited bids to develop standalone BESS in the state with a total capacity of 500 MW/1 GWh, which will connect to six different substations.
The BESS will supply power to state-owned Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corp. Ltd (TNPDCL).
The tender document states developers will be eligible for up to 30% of BESS capital cost or INR 2.7 million ($31,000) per megawatt-hour of battery storage capacity, whichever figure is lower. The cash will be provided by viability gap funding, disbursed by central government to help make infrastructure projects financially viable.
Developers must bid for at least 50 MW/100 MWh of BESS project capacity and can increase the scale in increments of the same size. Around 7,000 m2 of land will be allocated for each 50 MW/100 MWh of project capacity.
Successful bidders will build, own, and operate the projects and TNPDCL will sign battery energy storage purchase agreements and arrange for charging of the batteries.
The deadline for bids in the tender is April 2.
