Indian 1 GWh battery storage tender yields lowest tariffs to date

NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd (NVVN)’s tender for 1,000 MWh (500 MW x 2 hours) of standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) with viability gap funding in Rajasthan has resulted in approved tariffs range from INR 2.16 lakh/MW/month to INR 2.19 lakh/MW/month.

Solar91 Cleantech secured its full bid capacity of 50 MW/100 MWh by quoting the lowest tariff of INR 2.16 lakh/MW/month. Other winners include Stockwell Solar Services (450 MWh), Oriana Power (250 MWh), Rays Power Experts (100 MWh) and INOX Renewable Solutions (100 MWh).

The projects will be implemented on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis, with the BESS made available to NVVN for charging and discharging on an on-demand basis, as per the requirements of the end procurer, Rajasthan Urja Vikas and IT Services Ltd, during peak and off-peak hours.

The entire 1 GWh of storage capacity will be set up at generating stations owned by Rajasthan Urja Vikas and IT Services Ltd.

Each BESS will be required to support two full charge-discharge cycles per day.

NVVN, acting as the BESS Implementing Agency (BIA), will sign a 12-year battery energy storage purchase agreement (BESPA) with the selected developers. Charging power for the BESS will be supplied by Rajasthan Urja Vikas and IT Services Ltd.
