Chile’s Environmental Impact Assessment System has greenlit the Pampino Photovoltaic Park project submitted by Zelestra Chile, which includes a 170 MW solar plant and a 1.02 GWh storage system.

The $263 million, 467-hectare project is planned in the municipality of Pozo Almonte, in the Tarapacá region. It will be connected to the National Electric System via two 220 kV transmission lines and its own sectioning substation.

Construction is set to begin in June 2028 and Pampino should have a useful life of 37.1 years. Operation is scheduled to begin in September 2029.

During the construction phase, an average of 600 jobs are expected, with a peak of 800. An average seven employees – and a maximum of 30 – will operate the project. Decommissioning the project is expected to require 150 to 300 workers.
