ACME Solar Holdings has commissioned a 142.67 MW/481.49 MWh battery energy storage facility in the Indian state of Rajasthan through its subsidiaries. The installation represents Phase 1 of its planned 585 MW/2,011.24 MWh BESS portfolio under these special purpose vehicles.

The company said its current RE project portfolio requires around 17 GWh of BESS across different states.

The newly commissioned BESS capacity in Rajasthan is connected with the existing operational inter-state transmission system (ISTS) and will run on merchant basis on short term basis, generating additional revenue stream through price differential between peak and non-peak demand hours. Eventually, these BESS will be integrated with ACME’s respective firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) projects, operating under the power purchase agreements (PPAs) for 25 years.

The BESS will be charged batteries during non-peak demand periods and discharged during peak demand periods, enhancing grid reliability and optimising power utilisation.

ACME Solar currently has a diversified renewable energy portfolio of 8,071 MW across solar, wind, storage, firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE), and hybrid projects. Of this, 2,966 MW is operational and 5,105 MW is under construction, along with 16.5 GWh of battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity. The under-construction PPA-signed portfolio stands at 3,304 MW.
