US DOE awards $14m for unique energy storage systems for critical facilities and infrastructure
The US Department of Energy's (DoE) Critical Facility Energy Resilience (CiFER) fund will back an organic quinone flow battery and an iron and sodium long duration energy storage (LDES) system in California, plus a lithium battery with a novel cathode material in New York state.

ContourGlobal announces 9.5 GWh BESS acquisitions in Italy
ContourGlobal has annouunced that it has acquired 1.6 GW of battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Italy with up to 9.5 GWh of energy storage capacity ahead of the MACSE auctions. The entire portfolio is expected to be commissioned in 2028.

German innovation tender four times oversubscribed, 29 PV+BESS projects awarded
The German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) received bids totaling over 2 GW in its latest innovation tender, which is open to renewable energy projects incorporating storage systems, among others. The awarded tariffs for combined photovoltaic and storage projects ranged from €0.0500 to €0.0639 per kWh.
Brazilian energy storage regulation due this year, regulator official says
Daniel Danna, rapporteur for regulator the Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica's (ANEEL) Public Consultation (CP) 39, of 2023, told Brazil's Chamber of Deputies initial energy storage rules would be published in the second half of the year, with two rounds of further regulatory discussion due to finish by 2028.

Sonnen: Intelligent battery charging vital for home solar arrays
The ever-increasing number of negative electricity price hours is affecting owners of solar arrays. This year, the shortfall in payments from the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) could rise to around €250 ($294), affecting 40% of annual revenue, according to a projection by storage company Sonnen.
