Argentina’s oversubscribed BESS tender draws record-low bids
The Argentine Energy Secretariat has received significantly more bids than expected for its public call to install large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area (AMBA). Although the tender aimed for 500 MW, the AlmaGBA procurement drew proposals totaling 1,347 MW on the back of highly competitive pricing and strong industry interest.

Reliance Infra has landed a 390 MW solar and 780 MWh solar-plus-storage project from the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC); the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is tendering an 80 MW/320 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Kerala.

The call, by the Unified Council of Distribution Companies (CUED), will be the first in the nation to require projects to include batteries with storage capacity of at least four hours. The aim is to provide stability to the National Interconnected Electric System (SENI).

Rajasthan is accepting bids to set up standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS), connected to the State Transmission Utility, with an aggregate storage capacity of 2,000 MWh via 500 MW x 4 hours. The systems will operate on a single-cycle charging/discharging basis.

Meanwhile, Serentica is seeking technical partners worldwide to set up interstate transmission system-connected battery energy storage systems to supply 800 MWh of battery capacity to Serentica’s round-the-clock green energy projects.

Bulgaria initiates consultations on 3 GWh standalone energy storage tender
The Bulgarian Ministry of Energy is readying to launch a tender on September 2 and provide CAPEX support for the construction and commissioning of 3 GWh of standalone energy storage facilities. The public call is for projects equal to or greater than 10 MW with at least two hours of storage capacity, which will be primarily used in the frequency regulation markets.

India’s NTPC launches 250 MW/500 MWh standalone battery storage tender
Indian state-run power producer NTPC Ltd has invited bids to develop 250 MW/500 MWh of grid-connected standalone battery energy storage systems in Gadarwara, the state of Madhya Pradesh, central India and Solapur, the state of Maharashtra, western India.

Austria offers €17.9 million to fund storage
The Austrian authorities have offered €17.9 million ($19 million) to fund medium-sized electricity storage systems, with €10 million from the climate action protection ministry and €7.9 million from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD).
