Western Australia completes installation of 2 GWh BESS near ageing coal-fired power plant
In the shadow of the aging Collie coal-fired power plant scheduled to close by 2027, the installation of 640 containerised batteries at Collie, Western Australia, is now complete. The battery storage facility will start serving the grid later in 2025.

Plans for 3.4 GWh of storage across Scottish, English batteries
Matrix Renewables wants to construct 1 GW/2 GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) at Eccles and Kilmarnock, in Scotland, and Clearstone Energy has secured planning consent for a 300 MW/600 MWh BESS in Suffolk and a 400 MW/800 MWh site near Horsham.

100MW/200MWh BESS goes online in Texas with Energy Vault and Jupiter Power
Near Fort Stockton in Texas, USA, Jupiter Power’s St Gall BESS has gone online, supported by B-Vault AC block and VaultOS Energy Management System from Energy Vault. The 100 MW/200 MWh BESS now provides energy and ancillary services to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) with full-scale commercial operations.

EWEC requests proposals Abu Dhabi 400 MW BESS project
The UAE’s Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has issued a request for proposals (RFP) to qualified developers and developer consortiums that expressed interest in developing a greenfield 400 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in Abu Dhabi.
Walo battery to support Senegal’s state grid
Construction has started on the Walo storage and PV project in Senegal. Africa REN has commissioned the large-scale solar and battery storage project to address Senegal’s grid constraints. Africa REN is working in partnership with Senelec, Senegal’s national electricity company to provide much-needed stability to the local grid to reduce power outages.

EWEC seeks proposals for 400 MW battery storage project in Abu Dhabi
The battery energy storage project will provide operating reserves and crucial ancillary services such as frequency response and voltage regulation, further reinforcing the security of supply and supporting Emirates Water and Electricity Co. (EWEC) to increase its solar capacity to 7.5 GW by 2030.
Origin elevates Eraring battery capacity over 2 GWh at site of Australia’s largest coal generator
Australian utility Origin Energy has approved an AU$450 million investment to construct the second-stage 240 MW / 1,030 MWh four-hour duration grid-forming battery at Eraring Power Station in New South Wales. Stage two will be built with Wärtsilä’s Quantum High Energy storage system and equipped to deliver system strength support services.
