Project Applications ESS News

The global pipeline of energy storage projects is growing rapidly across a variety of market segments, including distributed, grid-scale, off-grid and second-life projects.

From increasing solar self-consumption, reducing consumption peaks, providing flexibility to the electricity system, to deferring costly investments in transmission and distribution infrastructure, the range of applications which energy storage devices can provide is constantly evolving.

To build a robust business case, however, most storage facilities need to provide several services.

Battery storage for Germany’s energy transition: Unlocking untapped potential Germany's energy transition is making significant progress: In the first half of 2024, the share of renewable energy in the electricity mix rose to 57 %. This new influx of renewable energy is pushing the power grid to its limits. Battery energy storage systems and an optimized redispatch procedure could play a key role in improving the integration of renewables and alleviating grid congestion. However, some hurdles still need to be overcome, according to Benedikt Deuchert of Kyon Energy.
