From increasing solar self-consumption, reducing consumption peaks, providing flexibility to the electricity system, to deferring costly investments in transmission and distribution infrastructure, the range of applications which energy storage devices can provide is constantly evolving.
To build a robust business case, however, most storage facilities need to provide several services.

Finland proposes priority system for grid connections
Finland’s government is proposing a priority system for electricity network connections in areas of scarce grid capacity in a bid to incentivise large electricity consumers and standalone storage systems to locate in areas where the grid is less congested.
French startup repurposes EV batteries for solar energy storage at 30% discount
Battwoo is repurposing electric vehicle batteries for stationary energy storage, targeting solar self-consumption and other commercial and industrial applications. The company says its refurbished systems can cost around 30% less than new batteries while extending battery service life by several decades.

Elements Green’s 360 MW/720 MWh battery storage project secures green light

Arizona’s largest energy storage project closes $513 million in financing
In the USA, the 1,200 MWh Papago Storage project will dispatch enough power to serve 244,000 homes for four hours a day with the e-Storage SolBank high-cycle lithium-ferro-phosphate battery energy storage solution. Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc. has secured $513 million in project financing for its Papago Storage project located in Maricopa County, Arizona.Â
Australian vehicle-to-grid trial gets $3.2 million boost
Amber Electric has received a $3.2 million (USD 2.3 million) grant from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) toward their $7.7 million electric vehicle (EV) smart charging and bi-directional vehicle-to-grid (V2G) software solution trial. One thousand customers across Australia will participate in the trial over the next two years with the V2G scope expected to begin in mid-2025.
