Sodium-ion storage system for commercial operators from Austria’s Salzstrom
The new "SALT 110" battery storage system from the Vienna-based company has a usable capacity of up to 110 kilowatt-hours. The first systems are scheduled to be installed at customer sites in Germany and Austria at the beginning of March.
High temperature sodium-zinc batteries: Researchers use X-rays to find reasons for capacity loss
Sodium-zinc molten-salt batteries operate at around 600 degrees Celsius and are considered highly promising for stationary energy storage, thanks to their abundantly available and low-cost raw materials. But persistent capacity losses have held the technology back. Helmholtz researchers have now used operando X-ray imaging to see, for the first time, exactly why.
World’s fastest supercomputers probing future of sodium-ion batteries
Japanese researchers used supercomputer simulations to reveal how sodium ions form clusters and move within hard carbon anodes, identifying nanopore sizes and transition regions that control diffusion and rate performance in sodium-ion batteries. Their findings offer design guidelines for optimizing hard-carbon anodes to improve energy density, cycling, and commercialization prospects.
Energy Vault locks in 1.5 GWh of Peak Energy’s sodium-ion batteries for AI data centers
The companies will co-develop a full-stack storage platform – combining Peak Energy’s sodium-ion batteries with Energy Vault’s proprietary digital stack -dedicated to the Swiss company's AI infrastructure portfolio.
