Spain’s MITECO has around 1 GW of battery storage projects under environmental assessment

The latest figures from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO) show 430 MW of further sites have completed the process.

Spain’s MITECO has a dozen energy storage projects going through its environmental permitting process, in addition to two sites the ministry has designated “complete.”

The latter comprise the 200 MW/885 MWh ST Palmosilla site in Cádiz, which developer Rolwind announced earlier in November, and the 230 MW ST Asturias project in Asturias, northwest Spain.

The other 12 projects are:

  1. The 21.245 MW Los Naipes II storage module, for hybridization with the 46.4 MW Los Naipes II photovoltaic solar park and for evacuation infrastructure, in the province of Badajoz, which has been assigned to a decision-maker at MITECO.

  3. The 107.91 MW Picassent battery energy storage system (BESS) and evacuation infrastructure, in the province of Valencia, which is in prior consultations.

  5. The 51 MW/204 MWh Las Regañas BESS and evacuation infrastructure, in the province of Barcelona, ​​promoted by Opdenergy and which is currently in preliminary consultation.
  6. The 100.2 MW Tabiella BESS and evacuation infrastructure, in the province of Asturias, which is in prior consultation.
  7. The 65 MW Pb Navegantes 32 and the 65 MW Pb Navegantes 33 energy storage plants and evacuation infrastructure, in the principality of Asturias, are described as having had their decisions issued.
  8. The 77.6 MW St Cerrillo energy storage plant and evacuation infrastructure, in the province of Malaga, is in prior consultation.
  9. The 50.9 MW Glauco Almacena energy storage plant and evacuation infrastructure, in the province of Girona, is in prior consultation.
  10. The 110 MW standalone St Cerrillo storage system, in the municipality of Álora, and its evacuation infrastructure, in the municipality of Álora in the province of Málaga, are in prior consultation.
  11. The 100 MW standalone St Solorzano storage system, in the province of Cantabria, is in prior consultation.
  12. The 200 MW standalone St Grandas de Salime storage system and evacuation infrastructure, in the province of Asturias.
