Indian state-controlled utility NHPC Ltd. has invited proposals to set up 125 MW/500 MWh of grid connected standalone BESS at four sites in the state of Kerala.

The projects are intended to supply evening peak grid demand for Kerala State Electricity Board Ltd.

Bidders, who can offer to develop all four sites, will develop the BESS on a build, own, operate basis and will be eligible for central government viability gap funding, which is awarded to help make infrastructure projects financially viable.

NHPC will sign battery energy storage purchase agreements with the successful bidders.

“Already-commissioned projects cannot be considered under this RfS [request for solution],” states the tender document. “Projects [which are] under construction or projects which are not yet commissioned will, however, be considered, [provided they] are not already accepted under any other central or state [incentive] schemes.”
