Spanish grid operator REE has begun publishing pumped hydro and battery energy storage data, differentiating between energy generation and storage on its platforms.

REE is keeping record of energy storage capacity, project power capacity, and stored energy, and is now including energy stored by pumped turbines in conventional power plants under the storage, rather than generation, category.

The part state-owned grid company said the share of clean energy in Spain’s electricity supply in 2024 rose from 55.8% to 56.8% as a result of its updated figures.

The updated information can be found on REE’s web platforms and in its redOS mobile app, with records organized by electrical systems and regions. There is also updated real-time visualization of energy demand and production data.

“The application of this new indicator classification criterion by Red Eléctrica places our country as one of the pioneers, at European level, in the visualization and analysis of the evolution of [energy] storage,” said REE.
