Indian tenders for 2.9 GWh of energy storage capacity

Two more government entities in India have opened tenders with a utility-scale energy storage element.
The federal state-owned National Thermal Power Company wants to procure 1.2 GW of solar generation capacity linked to 600 MW/2.4 GWh of energy storage facilities.
The grid-connected projects can be established anywhere in India and will be developed on a build, own, operate basis.
The deadline for tender bids is on March 13, 2025.
Telangana state electric utility the Telangana Power Generation Corp. Ltd (TGGENCO) wants to allocate 250 MW/500 MWh of standalone BESS, to be connected to the state’s grid.
TGGENCO will sign battery energy storage purchase agreements with the successful bidders, whose sites must offer complete two-cycle charging and discharging BESS operation.
The Telangana projects will be eligible for central government viability gap funding, which is issued to help make infrastructure projects economically feasible.
Analyst Mercom India has reported the closing date for bids in the Telangana auction as Feb. 21, 2025.
