Call for energy storage projects for Europe’s next 10-year grid plan

Project promoters hoping to have their energy storage sites included in the next iteration of the TYNDP for the pan-European grid have until noon (CEST) on May 26 to submit their proposals.
The TYNDPs, which are updated every two years, are drafted by ENTSO-E, a grouping of 40 electricity transmission system operators from 36 European countries.
The plans are scrutinized by the European Union Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators and adopted by the European Commission.
ENTSO-E has issued a call for proposals for its TYNDP for 2026, to include energy storage as well as electricity transmission projects.
Projects can be submitted for consideration via the TYNDP 2026 project platform and ENTSO-E will conduct a cost-benefit analysis of them and publish the results in the third quarter of 2026, in its draft TYNDP 2026, which will then go out for public consultation. The requirements for projects to be included in the plan were published last month in a “Guidelines for Applicants” document which underwent public consultation between February and March.
The guidelines explain the procedure and deadline for submitting projects, required documentation and information, and the use and dissemination of project information submitted.
Project promoters can also refer to a “TYNDP Project Platform User Guide” and “Frequently Asked Questions for Sponsors” document and can understand the project cost-benefit analysis methodology by consulting ENTSO-E’s “Fourth Guide to Cost-Benefit Analysis of Network Development Projects.”
An ENTSO-E team will be available to answer questions in a webinar about the TYNDP on May 6, from 11:00 a.m. (CEST) to 12:30 p.m. (CEST).
Inclusion in the TYNDP is a prerequisite for projects hoping to attain EU CEF funding as European Projects of Common Interest or Projects of Mutual Interest.
