TWS Energy Storage Project Case Series 12: Microgrid

In May 2025, TWS Technology, in collaboration with a local sawmill, designed and implemented a microgrid energy storage system to enhance the utilization of renewable energy and reduce operating costs. The system boosts the power of 500 kW and capacity of 745 kWh, and is composed of four TWS ProeM liquid-cooling storage cabinets, one 500 kW PCS, and one DC combiner. Through the combination of ESS + PV + diesel generator”, a stable and low-carbon microgrid is formed with energy complementarity. The microgrid system not only enables the sawmill to achieve electricity self-sufficiency, but also allows for the clean power output to the loads of surrounding schools, businesses, and residents, thus maximizing the value of energy storage system.
With the microgrid system, the utilization rate of renewable energy has increased from 62.5% to 95.8% and the power supply stability has advanced from 60% to over 90%, ensuring the consistent and stable production of the sawmill, as well as fuel cost saving of Euro 62000 per year. It also helps reduce the carbon footprint by 35% and lower carbon emissions by around 164 tons annually. As a global leading ESS solution provider, TWS Technology is dedicated to providing energy storage solutions for all application scenarios. This successful operation of the microgrid energy storage system at the sawmill in Germany not only resolves the energy predicament for the stable operation and long-term development of the sawmill but also demonstrates the perfect coexistence of industrial inheritance and ecological future. Looking ahead, TWS Technology will continue upholding the strategic core of “technological innovation + localized operation”, fully leverage the social and economic benefits of storage technology, integrate advanced storage technologies with a broader range of industries, driving green transitions across all sectors, injecting new vitality into regional economic development, creating value for the global market and contributing to build a greener, low-carbon and sustainable future.
