In recent years, the Nordic region has emerged as a core engine for global energy storage market growth, thanks to its high penetration of renewable energy and the need for grid stability. In 2021, the Finnish government released the “National Battery Strategy 2025,” which clearly outlines plans to build a globally leading battery industry cluster through technological innovation, industrial chain integration, and a circular economy model, aiming to drive the continuous expansion of the energy storage market by 2025. Currently, Finnish energy storage projects have extended from the ancillary services market to various scenarios such as industrial and commercial applications and microgrids. The addition of new energy storage capacity is set to keep rising in 2025, with high returns from frequency regulation services and the demand for renewable energy consumption attracting global investors to accelerate their investment in the region.

Lehto Group’s Strategic Transformation and Desay’s Technological Empowerment of Nordic Energy Infrastructure

Finland’s Lehto Group Oyj (hereinafter referred to as “Lehto”), a benchmark in the Nordic construction industry, has been reshaping the industry landscape with its modular construction and sustainability concept since its establishment in 1985. In May 2024, Lehto announced a comprehensive focus on real estate energy solutions and power storage. The upcoming cooperation between Desay Battery and Lehto in the 200MWh energy storage frequency regulation market in Finland and the Nordic region marks a deep synergy in technology, resources, and market access: Lehto will leverage its capabilities in localized project development and system integration, while Desay Battery will provide high-performance energy storage products and full-stack solutions, precisely meeting the dual demands of the Finnish grid for rapid frequency regulation and economic efficiency.

The cooperation project between Desay Battery and Lehto Group will adopt a “battery energy storage + digital operations and maintenance” model, not only providing second-level frequency response for the grid but also optimizing the revenue model through energy arbitrage. Notably, Desay Battery’s 5MWh liquid-cooled container system has passed certification under the EU’s New Battery Regulation, with its carbon footprint management and recycling compliance clearing policy hurdles for project implementation. Lehto Group will utilize its experience in Nordic public facility construction to handle civil engineering works, local compliance approvals, and community relations coordination, shortening project cycles and reducing non-technical costs, further highlighting the sustainability of the cooperation.

Deepening Its Presence in the European Market: Desay’s Globalization Strategy Advances

For Desay Battery, this cooperation represents a crucial move in expanding its presence in the Nordic market. Finland, as a “test field” for the EU’s clean energy transition, allows project experiences to be rapidly replicated in neighboring countries such as Sweden and Norway, creating a regional synergy effect. With its diversified product portfolio, Desay Battery not only consolidates its advantages in industrial and commercial energy storage and grid-side applications but also circumvents trade barriers through localized cooperation, accelerating its integration into the European energy storage ecosystem. Previously, Desay had reached a 4GWh cooperation framework with Germany’s DOS company. This partnership with Lehto Group will further solidify its positioning as an “international full-scenario energy storage service provider,” accumulating first-mover advantages for subsequent bids on EU projects.

The cooperation between Desay Battery and Lehto Group serves as a model of Sino-Finnish green technology collaboration and an innovative paradigm of “technology + scenarios” for global energy transition. As the Nordic energy storage market continues to expand, Desay Battery will deepen its exploration in the energy storage field, empowering Europe’s zero-carbon future with “Intelligent Manufacturing from China” and jointly crafting a win-win scenario for the global energy revolution.
