German renewables developer Baywa re has sold its largest European BESS project.

The site, developed by Baywa’s Dutch subsidiary Groenleven, has been bought by Rotterdam-based storage tank company Vopak.

The construction-ready project, in the north Netherlands, has permission for a 300 MW connection to Dutch utility Tennet’s high-voltage grid and holds all necessary permits and land.

A Baywa spokesperson said the scale of the BESS has not been decided and the date of grid connection has not yet been confirmed. The spokesperson, speaking to pv magazine Germany, declined to reveal the value of the sale.
