Indian state tenders solar site with 1.1 GWh battery
State body Kredl has invited bids for a 250 MW solar park and 250 MW/1.1 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at Ryapte, in Karnataka. The project will be developed on a build-own-operate basis to supply grid electricity during peak demand periods and optimize grid electricity use at the Pavagada Solar Park.
The Karnataka electricity supply companies (Escoms) will enter into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the successful developer for a period of 25 years. Kredl will act as the nodal agency for facilitating the procurement of solar power on behalf of the Escoms.
For the purpose of developing the solar project with BESS, land parcels located in the Tirumani gram panchayat area, near Pavagada in Tumkur district, will be provided by Kredl to the successful renewable power developer on a lease basis.
“[The] BESS will mandatorily constitute part of the solar power project. [Any] BESS charged using a source other than solar power would not qualify as RE [renewable energy] power. [The] BESS may be owned by the renewable power developer or tied up separately with a third party by the developer. The BESS technology can be changed by the developer at any time during the term of the PPA,” as per the tender.
