Ingeteam has commissioned the Hale Kuawehi solar-plus-storage project in the city of Waimea on Hawaii.

The Basque electrical energy conversion company supplied 11 integrated power stations which connect to solar panels and batteries as an all-in-one solution for a project developed by Canada’s Innergex Renewable Energy Inc.

The site comprises a 30 MW photovoltaic plant and a 30 MW/120 MWh battery storage system. The electricity produced will be purchased over 25 years by the Hawaii Electric Light Company (HELCO) under a power purchase agreement.

The Hawaiian archipelago has set a goal of meeting all electricity demand from renewable energy by 2045. Fossil fuels currently represent the primary source of electricity on the island of Hawaii, accounting for 41.3% of supply last year.
