United States zinc battery manufacturer Eos Energy Enterprises is pumping a total of $352.9 million to relocate its company headquarters to Pennsylvania and expand its existing manufacturing operation in Allegheny County.

As part of its Pennsylvania manufacturing expansion, Eos will lease an existing 432,000-square-foot facility in Marshall Township in northern Allegheny County where new production lines are planned for deployment. The company’s existing headquarters are in Edison, New Jersey. It already leases two facilities in Pennsylvania, in Turtle Creek, where its initial expansion into the state began in 2024 with an automated production line.

Eos is known for its aqueous zinc battery solutions, such as the Znyth product, which is aimed at the utility and commercial and industrial markets.

Pennsylvania’s Governor Josh Shapiro has pledged a $22 million investment into the company’s Allegheny County expansion, which will create at least 735 new jobs and retain 265 current positions.

Shapiro said his team was capitalizing on Pennsylvania’s status as a net energy exporter to attract leading energy manufacturers like Eos to invest in the region. “We’re doubling down on our efforts to aggressively compete for — and win — major projects like this one by cutting red tape, building out our skilled workforce, and investing in the next generation of energy technology,” he said.

Eos’ CEO, Joe Mastrangelo, emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships and Pennsylvania’s willingness to invest in American battery manufacturing. “In today’s competitive environment, and in what we’re working to achieve in powering the nation’s future, you need not only natural resources and technology innovations, but also a strong public-private partnership.”

The Eos executive added that Pennsylvania’s strong industrial history and its “world class university ecosystem” providing a local talent pool positions it at the forefront of America’s energy transition — “enabling us to bring America’s battery to scale.”

Eos received a funding proposal from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) for a $10 million Pennsylvania First grant and a further $12 million through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) which includes $3 million previously awarded to Eos in 2022. Allegheny County invested $2 million to support Eos’ expansion into the region.

Eos could also be eligible for tax credits through the Qualified Manufacturing Innovation and Reinvestment Deduction program, the Manufacturing Tax Credit program, and the Research and Development Tax Credit program.
