France-headquartered Exide Technologies has announced a new energy storage solution designed for commericial, industrial and utility-scale energy storage applications.

The 5 MWh Solition Mega Five features 625 Ah lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells in a 20-foot container. It offers a roundtrip efficiency of up to 95%. The system measures 6,058 × 2,438 × 2,896 mm and weighs 45 tons.

It features liquid cooling and heating and has an operating temperature range from minus 30°C to 55°C. The system comes with a five-year system warranty. It also has a 10-year or 6,000-cycle capacity guarantee at 70% end-of-life capacity – whichever comes first – under the following conditions: max 0.5C/0.5C, 15–28°C, 90% depth of discharge (DoD).

Exide also offers a tailor-made skid solution for the Solition Mega Five. This pre-assembled, transportable unit houses all essential components – including inverters, transformers, and medium-voltage switchgear – facilitating integration into existing medium-voltage grid infrastructure while simplifying project planning, permitting, and commissioning for large-scale deployments. The 45-foot air-cooled skid supports grid voltages from 11 to 33 kV and is available in three variants: 1,725 kVA, 3,450 kVA, and 5,160 kVA.

The Solition Mega Five is designed for both front-of-the-meter (FTM) and behind-the-meter (BTM) applications. In FTM settings, it can provide frequency stabilization and support energy trading, while in BTM setups, it enables peak shaving, self-consumption, backup power, and off-grid or microgrid applications.

Developed and manufactured in Europe, the system comes with strong cybersecurity features. Exide’s proprietary energy management software is developed and maintained in-house, with operational data securely hosted on European servers in compliance with EU regulations.

Exide also offers a full-service approach, including consulting, project design, installation, certification, and long-term service.

“This BESS system meets the latest requirements of utility-scale (incl. co-location) and C&I customers. With short delivery times and strong early demand across Europe, we’re excited to see Solition Mega Five already making an impact,” said Tobias Badelt, sales director BESS at Exide Technologies.
