NHOA Energy starts construction of the Broni Battery for Neoen in Italy
NHOA Energy said today it has commenced construction of the Broni Battery in Italy, a 10 MW / 51 MWh project located in Broni (Pavia), located in the Po Valley, some 55km south of Milan.
The Broni Battery is owned by Neoen, a French producer of renewable energy headquartered in Paris, and owned by Brookfield. The Broni Battery was the first energy storage project in Italy for Neoen.
NHOA Energy said civil works at the site are “currently underway and advancing on schedule,” with commissioning activities planned to start in late spring 2026.
The provided photo shows that the overall site has been cleared, leveled, and compacted with aggregate or soil base. With fencing in place, the site currently has some 10 rectangular excavated pits visible across the site in a grid pattern, with multiple pads showing indication that initial concrete pours have begun.
Once operational, the project is set to provide flexibility services to the Italian electricity system. The pair of companies previously commissioned the 238 MW / 477 MWh Blyth Battery in South Australia in 2025.
NHOA Energy said in its press release that it has made a “long-term commitment to the Italian market,” with its history of delivering utility-scale energy storage projects, including assets awarded under the Capacity Market framework. The company also said it “confirms [its] positioning in support of Italy’s energy transition and future energy storage initiatives, including the MACSE schemes,” with comments from Fabrizio Ciaccia, Vice President EMEA of NHOA Energy.
“Broni Battery reflects our ability to move efficiently from engineering to execution, delivering tailored energy storage solutions that respond to the specific needs of the Italian power system,” said Ciaccia. “It also highlights the strength of our collaboration with Neoen, a partner with whom we share high standards of execution, a long-term vision and a strong focus on performance across international markets.”
