Sonnen cuts prices for large residential battery products
Sonnen is responding to a changing market environment for residential energy storage, where larger systems have become more cost-effective due to rising energy prices and new regulatory requirements. It has announced temporary price reductions valid through the end of June.
For example, customers who purchase a “sonnenBatterie 10 hybrid” with a capacity of 22 kWh, will get this for the price of an 11 kWh unit. The discount also applies to the larger 27.5 kWh model, which will be offered for the price of a 16.5 kWh system. Sonnen also announced on Wednesday that it will offer a net discount of €1,200 ($1,392) on its AC-coupled home storage systems, the “sonnenBatterie 10,” for models with a capacity of 11 kWh or more.
Larger smart storage systems can help households protect themselves against energy price fluctuations and significantly increase their self-consumption, according to Sonnen. They can also be used when surplus electricity is available on the market and electricity prices are low. “Today, it’s all about timing: when to feed energy into the grid and when not to. When should I draw cheap electricity from the energy market, and when can I even sell some?”
Smart storage systems are the perfect tool for all of this,” says Andreas Plenk, Chief Revenue Officer at Sonnen. The larger the storage system, the more customers can benefit from this effect. Sonnen operates a virtual power plant that is used to generate arbitrage revenue for its customers, and its own operations.
In late 2025, the company launched a promotion in which it offered customers a form of trade-in bonus if they wanted to replace their old residential BESS with a new system from Sonnen. The company provided a credit of up to €2,800 for trading in the old storage system and purchasing a “Sonnenbatterie” with a capacity of at least 5.5 kWh.
