Argentine province building distributed solar plants with storage
Five distributed solar projects are under construction across Buenos Aires province and three more are in the tendering phase under a provincial program to strengthen electricity supply in areas with constrained grids.
The projects form part of the Solar Distributed Generation Plan led by the Buenos Aires provincial government’s Energy Subsecretariat in partnership with the Regional Electricity Forum of Buenos Aires Province (FREBA) through the Provincial Distributed Energy Generation Incentive Program (PROINGED).
According to the provincial government, the five projects under construction will add 3.5 MWp of solar generation capacity and 2,900 kWh of battery storage. Battery systems will be installed at the San Cayetano and Pehuen-Có sites to address local grid requirements and seasonal demand.
The Castilla project will have 400 kWp of solar capacity and will be operated by the Chacabuco Electric Cooperative to improve electricity supply at the end of a distribution line where network constraints affect service quality.
The Marisol project will include 200 kWp of solar capacity and 1,500 kWh of battery storage, while the Gorchs project will combine 400 kWp of solar with 1,600 kWh of storage. Both projects are intended to ease constraints on extensive distribution networks serving residential, rural, and industrial customers.
The provincial government said the eight projects are scheduled to enter operation in 2027. Once completed, Buenos Aires province will have 34 operating solar plants with a combined installed PV capacity of 12 MWp. Together, the projects supported by the program are expected to generate about 21,000 MWh of electricity annually, equivalent to the consumption of about 7,000 households.
