Battery storage explosion injures three firefighters in Germany
Three firefighters suffered minor injuries this week after a battery energy storage system (BESS) exploded during a fire at a property near Rostock, Germany.
Three firefighters were injured after a BESS exploded while crews were responding to a fire at a residential property near Rostock, Germany.
The fire broke out on June 5 in a wooden shed at a single-family home in Bentwisch. According to the local fire service, the battery storage system had overheated before firefighters arrived.
During firefighting operations, the battery exploded, blowing the roof off the shed and causing the structure to collapse. Flying debris also damaged two neighboring properties.
Authorities estimated property damage at about €40,000 ($47,000).
The public prosecutor’s office has appointed a fire investigator, and police have opened an investigation into the cause of the incident.
